Due to their outstanding mechanical, electrical, thermal, and barrier properties, graphene-based nanocomposites have been a scorching space of analysis up to now decade. Due to their easy top-down synthesis, graphene oxide (GO) and diminished graphene oxide (rGO) have opened new prospects for fuel barrier, membrane separation, and stimuli-response traits in nanocomposites. Herein, we overview the synthesis methods mostly used to supply these graphene derivatives, talk about how synthesis impacts their key materials properties, and spotlight some examples of nanocomposites with distinctive and spectacular properties. We particularly spotlight their performances in separation functions, stimuli-responsive supplies, anti-corrosion coatings, and vitality storage. Lastly, we talk about the outlook and remaining challenges within the area of sensible industrial-scale manufacturing and use of graphene-derivative-based polymer nanocomposites.
